Britain has a history to be proud of.
More than most countries, ours has played a critical role in making the modern world.
Our democratic institutions have inspired other countries to set up their own. Our inventions have transformed people’s lives. Our King and Queen are global icons.
But many of our children are getting a very different message at school, through third party resources being used as a vehicle to push ideology onto children.
A message of guilt. Of shame. Of responsibility for all the world’s ills.
Seven-year-old kids are being told their skin colour is likely to mean they are privileged, while teenagers are being told black people can’t be racist to white people.
Groups like Schools of Sanctuary are promoting pro-illegal migration messaging in the classroom, and Labour Ministers are failing to call it out and intervene.
One of the group’s books, targeted at children as young as five, depicts small boats carrying cartoon animals, as if illegal migration is something cute and cuddly.
One Dorset school had to pull a ‘white guilt’ novel from its curriculum after parental backlash.
There are countless examples from schools where third party resources are being used to push division. We will come down hard on these resources, it is this kind of left-wing ideological nonsense that should be nowhere near our classrooms.
The consequences are clear. For example, huge numbers of young people say they wouldn’t fight for our country. That’s a problem for all of us, and we have to do something about it.
School should be about learning, not politics. That is why I am working with Baroness Amanda Spielman to look at how we can best stop third-party organisations forcing their political ideology onto kids. The problem goes wider than our schools, of course.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
Just look at the ridiculous plans to purge figures like Winston Churchill from our bank notes and replace them with wildlife.
This is just the latest attempt to rewrite our history, casting Britain as the villain regardless of the facts.
We shouldn’t have to put up with this. And we won’t.
The Conservative Party, led by Kemi Badenoch, is proud of our past.
Our shared culture is built on our shared history. We will not tolerate attempts to humiliate, embarrass or guilt-trip young people simply because they are British.
Labour may be content to see our history trashed in the education system.
But the Conservatives will fight the creeping politicisation of schools.
Focussing on grievance leads only to greater division and hatred.
Let’s focus on what unites us – our unique culture – and stand up for it.
