A touching exchange between King Charles and a well-wisher was captured on camera during today's walkabout at the inaugural RHS Sandringham Flower Show.

As the monarch greeted crowds gathered across the Norfolk countryside grounds, one fan remarked: "You look so much like your mum."

The King, who has previously been likened to both Prince William and the late King Edward VII, offered a muffled one-word reply, before laughter erupted within the crowd.

He appeared to receive the comparison to the late Queen Elizabeth II warmly, pausing briefly to chat with the admirer.

The endearing moment quickly resonated with royal watchers online after footage was shared on social media.

Beyond their physical likeness, the King appears to have inherited his mother's wonderfully expressive mannerisms.

The late Queen herself was a devoted attendee of that very event, having been present just four months before her death in September 2022.

On the day, the King cut a smart figure in a cream suit, accessorised with a purple patterned tie and his wooden walking stick as he toured the estate.

Queen Camilla accompanied him wearing a green paisley midi dress featuring gathered sleeves and an A-line skirt.

The occasion itself was a historic one. This year's event represents the very first Royal Horticultural Society show to be staged at Sandringham, with the programme boasting prize-winning gardens and talks from horticultural experts.

King Charles and Queen Camilla made a suitably regal entrance to the RHS, which the Sandringham Estate has agreed to host once every three years, arriving by horse-drawn carriage from Sandringham House through the Old Norwich Gates.

The monarch described the RHS Royal Legacy Garden, designed by Catherine MacDonald in collaboration with him, as "fantastic."

He then quizzed a group of schoolchildren about whether they grew vegetables. When a teacher mentioned tomatoes and herbs, the King urged them to try spinach, declaring it "the best thing in the world."

When speaking with the public, the King could also be heard joking about the hardships of getting older, when a member of the crowd told the monarch: "I'm the same age as you. You are looking good!"

The King responded with characteristic wit: "It gets much harder, doesn't it?"
