The couple looked dapper as they stepped out onto the red carpet for photos

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a glamorous appearance in Canada on Friday evening, attending a gala celebrating the 40th anniversary charitable work by the David Foster Foundation.

Meghan, 45, chose a striking black one-shoulder draped gown by Canadian label Greta Constantine for the red carpet occasion. She completed the look with diamond and sapphire earrings from the personal collection of the late Princess Diana.

Prince Harry, 41, complemented his wife's ensemble with a traditional black tuxedo and bow tie.

The pair posed alongside their hosts, music producer David Foster and his wife Katharine McPhee, with whom they share a longstanding friendship.

Friday's gala drew a notable guest list, with Adam Levine and Josh Groban among those in attendance. A free concert at Victoria's Inner Harbour followed the next day.

The choice of Diana's earrings carried particular resonance, coming just a fortnight after the Sussexes offered a rare glimpse of family life.

On July 23, Meghan posted a series of photographs to Instagram under the caption "Summer Holiday," documenting their visit to Britain.

One image depicted Harry walking with seven-year-old Archie and five-year-old Lilibet along a tree-lined path at Althorp, the Spencer family's ancestral estate where Diana spent her childhood.

The duchess possesses a notable collection of her late mother-in-law's jewellery.

Among the pieces are Diana's butterfly earrings with a matching cuff bracelet, a diamond tennis bracelet, her Cartier Tank Louis watch, and the famous aquamarine ring - often referred to as Diana's "divorce ring" - which Meghan wore on her wedding day in 2018.

The couple's bond with Mr Foster stretches back years. In 2019, the Canadian music producer arranged accommodation for them at a friend's mansion on Vancouver Island during a particularly turbulent period.

"I felt honoured that I was able to help Meghan there because I'm a Canadian, and we're a Commonwealth country; we're the Crown's. It's important to us, so I grew up with that kind of sentiment," Mr Foster told the Daily Mail.

Following the Sussexes' departure from royal duties and relocation to California, the two couples were spotted dining together at Lucky's Steakhouse in Montecito.

Mrs McPhee and Meghan first knew one another as teenagers at the same school. Their husbands subsequently developed their own close connection.

"My husband has a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry," Mrs McPhee told Access Hollywood in 2020. "They're like, they're so cute. They're like father and son."

Canada holds a special significance for the couple. Meghan was based in Toronto while filming the legal drama Suits when her relationship with Harry began, and the city hosted their first public appearance together at the 2017 Invictus Games.

They spent their first Christmas as a family of three in Vancouver in 2019, and returned to the city for the 2025 Invictus Games.
