The TV mogul gave the Duke of Sussex strong words of advice five years on from the bombshell interview

Oprah Winfrey has warned Prince Harry to "stay home" amid his ongoing security row with the Home Office.

The security dispute erupted once again when Harry visited the UK earlier this month.

After his application for a security package was denied by the Home Office and the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), Harry revealed Archie and Lilibet would not join their father in London.

However, along with Meghan, the family did visit the King at Highgrove, his Gloucestershire estate. It was their first meeting with King Charles in four years.

Security assurances were withdrawn after Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles as working royals in 2020.

In 2021, a few months later, they gave a bombshell interview with Ms Winfrey, where a pregnant Meghan alleged that "concerns" had been raised within the Palace regarding the skin colour of their son Archie.

Speaking to Vanity Fair while rewatching the infamous interview, Ms Winfrey gave some stark advice for the prince.

The clip opens with Harry, who told the presenter back in 2021: "My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don't get to leave, and I have huge compassion for that."

Ms Winfrey, reflecting, then gives an anecdote on her personal experiences of being unable to leave her house due to being recognised on the street.

"If you don't want to be bothered, stay home," she warned Harry.

"If you want to go to a restaurant and you're out to dinner with Stedman [Graham, Ms Winfrey's partner], and he's like, 'Why are people coming up all the time?' Then let's stay home and eat. And so that has been my approach."

She added: "Very different though, I think, than being royalty or being even a movie star."

Ms Winfrey received criticism at the time of the interview from royal fans who felt she sided with the Duchess of Sussex.

The TV mogul, who attended the Sussexes' 2018 Windsor wedding, had publicly declared she supported the couple "1,000 per cent" in their departure from Britain six years ago.

Earlier in the clip, Ms Winfrey explained that she posed the now-infamous "were you silent or were you silenced?" question to Meghan because she wanted absolute clarity.

"I didn't want, later, to hear 'Well no, it wasn't that. It really was that I was silenced.' So it was all for clarification," she told the outlet.

Social media users were far from persuaded. Several dismissed her reasoning as "meaningless word salad," while others noted she appeared visibly uneasy while rewatching the footage.

Poignantly, Ms Winfrey's Vanity Fair appearance comes just days after Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted Prince Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove House — the first time the Duchess and children had seen the 77-year-old monarch in person since 2022.
