Sir Gary Oldman received his knighthood from the Prince of Wales in September 2025

Sir Gary Oldman has disclosed that members of the Royal Family are devoted viewers of the Apple TV+ espionage thriller Slow Horses.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 68-year-old actor revealed that both Queen Camilla and the Prince of Wales regularly tune in to watch him play Jackson Lamb, the unkempt, foul-mouthed head of a group of misfit MI5 operatives.

The veteran performer expressed amusement at the idea of royals settling down to enjoy the programme at the palace.

The Queen has encountered Oldman on several occasions and made her enthusiasm clear.

Sir Gary revealed: "She said: 'Are there any more? I hope it's coming back, isn't it?'"

Prince William, meanwhile, offered a rather more playful response to Oldman's portrayal of the notoriously dishevelled Lamb.

Sir Gary added: "It was William who said to me, 'every time you come on the screen, I just want to give you a good wash'."

He marvelled at the thought, adding: "It's hard to imagine, isn't it? There's sort of one of the Windsors at the palace on their sofa, 'Slow Horses is nearly on'."

Oldman also reflected on receiving his knighthood, which took place at Windsor Castle. "I was deeply honoured to have that bestowed upon me, and it's an experience that is just unique and unto itself," he said.

The ceremony's grand setting clearly left a lasting impression on the actor.

"The whole pomp and circumstance of it is overwhelming," he remarked, describing the recognition of his decades-long career as "a beautiful thing."

Sir Gary Oldman received his knighthood from Prince William in September 2025.

The Oscar-winning actor was recognised for his service to drama during the King's Birthday Honours.

The acting legend has starred in the Harry Potter films as Harry's godfather, Sirius Black, and portrayed Gotham City Police lieutenant Jim Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

Sir Gary clinched the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2018 for his depiction of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.

In 2024, Gary Oldman addressed the fact that he had not then been recognised by the Royal Family, saying: "I don't know why. You should ask them. No nod from the royals, but there we are. "Maybe it's in my future."
