Sarah Ferguson has been staying out of the public eye as she considers her options in the wake of continued scrutiny surrounding her former connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
The 66-year-old has largely avoided public appearances throughout 2026, with her last sighting being photographs taken in the Austrian mountains back in April.
Despite her absence from public life, Ms Ferguson remains focused on her family. Her younger daughter Princess Eugenie, 36, is due to welcome her third child this summer.
"Sarah is keeping a low profile. She's staying in contact with her daughters and is awaiting the news of Eugenie's baby," a friend told People magazine.
Ms Ferguson is understood to still be overseas and has not travelled back to Britain while the investigation into her former husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, 66, continues in the months since his arrest in February.
Following the decision that both she and Mr Mountbatten-Windsor would need to vacate Royal Lodge in Windsor, Ms Ferguson had been expected to find a new residence in the Windsor area. However, she has not yet settled on a permanent home.
A source previously told the publication that Ms Ferguson "has never asked for a property or any provision for herself" and intends to "forge an independent life" going forward.
In October 2025, King Charles removed all titles and honours from Mr Mountbatten-Windsor, a decision prompted by the former royal's persistent ties to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
Mr Mountbatten-Windsor was subsequently instructed to leave Royal Lodge, the Windsor residence he had shared with Ms Ferguson for nearly two decades despite their divorce.
He now resides in a property on the King's Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
His arrest earlier this year made him the first member of the Royal Family in modern history to be taken into custody.
Mr Mountbatten-Windsor faces allegations that he passed confidential information to Epstein while serving as a UK trade envoy, and was later released pending an investigation. He has consistently denied any allegations of wrongdoing.
Her most recent public outing before disappearing from view was the christening of her granddaughter Athena, the second child of her elder daughter Princess Beatrice, in December 2025.
That appearance came after two months away from cameras following her attendance alongside Mr Mountbatten-Windsor at the funeral of the Duchess of Kent in London in September 2025.
