The defender hailed his side's resilience

Ezri Konsa said England's performance was a "brotherhood" as the Three Lions fought to a famous World Cup victory.

England battled the unaccustomed altitude, along with an hour's delay to the game, to secure a memorable 3-2 win against Mexico and move on to the quarter-finals, where they will play Norway.

Three Lions centre-half Konsa had to fill in at right back after Jarell Quansah's red card, saying: "If you want to go far in the tournament, it's what you have to do."

He praised teammates Dan Burn and John Stones, stating that they "were excellent when they came on" and was "really proud of the boys".

Konsa continued: "Having those players to come on and help us was a great feeling.

"The only thing we were thinking was to show our togetherness, to show how good we can be together defensively.

"I'm sure it was an amazing game to watch, but on the pitch it was a long one, especially when there are 11 minutes added on, but we had to show our strength, show our grit."

The Aston Villa defender praised Jordan Pickford, sharing that he had confidence in his man between the sticks.

He said: "Definitely, as a defender, having a world-class keeper behind you is always a good thing; we know how good he is.

"The amount of appearances he has made for England is for a reason, so happy with his performance and ours at the same time."

Describing the Three Lions effort, Konsa noted: "It was a brotherhood, you saw that today, the effort we had to put in.

"Certain players were changing positions, like myself, and putting in a shift."

England face Norway next after the side beat Brazil 2-1, with the game scheduled for 10pm on July 11 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Norway proceeded to the quarter-finals after Erling Haaland scored a header and a wonderful strike to put the Norwegians two goals ahead, maintaining the score of 2-0 until Neymar scored a penalty in the 100th minute.

Haaland's side have been a dark horse at this World Cup so far, with the Manchester City striker being one of three players to have scored seven goals.

Norway finished second in their group behind hot favourites France, after winning two games out of three.

They beat the Ivory Coast in the round of 32, 2-1, thanks to a late goal from Haaland.

He was on hand yesterday to knock out Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil and send Norway to new heights, reaching the quarter-finals for the first time in their history.

Speaking afterwards, Haaland said: "Everyone just needs to enjoy themselves.

"This is just an insane day. Like I said, it's one of the most insane days in Norwegian history. Just enjoy it. Embrace it and enjoy the moment."
