Manchester United and PSG have been beaten to the signature of Matheus Fernandes, who has opted to join Tottenham Hotspur.
The deal, worth £85million, shatters Spurs' previous spending record as they show their intent in the transfer market for next season.
The midfielder is currently preparing for his medical ahead of the anticipated move.
Should the transfer be finalised, Spurs will have eclipsed the £65m they spent on Dominic Solanke when he arrived from Bournemouth in August 2024.
Manchester United mounted a determined effort to land Fernandes but ultimately withdrew from negotiations, unwilling to meet the asking price set by West Ham.
Fernandes is regarded as one of the finest young players in English football's top flight, standing out for the Hammers despite their relegation to the Championship.
The Portuguese's journey to becoming a deeper-lying midfielder was not always anticipated, with Southampton initially deploying him in a more attacking capacity under Russell Martin.
"He was used as a little bit more as a No 10, a little bit more of an advanced role," Martin explains.

"But when I spoke to Matty through conversations with him, quite apparently, he saw himself as more of an all-round midfield player, more of a No 8.
"And that would lend himself to the defensive side of the game. What Matty wanted to do, he wanted to run.
"He wanted to be involved in the game as much as possible.
"But certainly, looking at his performances at West Ham this year, he certainly moved forward in terms of his game intelligence and mixed in with his strength, his tenacity and his engine."

| REUTERSKinsky, who turned around his season after his calamitous performance in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid, spoke positively about the upcoming campaigns with Spurs.
"I'm so happy, and I can feel the trust from the club. When I joined 18 months ago, my expectations were to fight for my place in the team and to wear this shirt every week.
"It's been a real journey to get here and a nice story already, and I'm looking forward to what lies ahead over the next months and years.
"Everyone around the club feels that we can have a successful season and I want to contribute to that. We want to give the fans what they want and what this club deserves."
