It's even more expensive if you add another member to your account

Netflix subscribers in the UK are facing yet another hit to their wallets, with the streaming giant pushing through its second round of price rises in a little over a year.

This comes after Netflix increased its costs in the US this past March, signalling that another increase in the UK wouldn't be far behind.

The budget-friendly option — that's the standard plan with adverts — has shot up by a whopping 33.4%, climbing from £5.99 to £7.99 a month. That works out to an extra £24 a year, bringing the annual total to just under £96.

If you'd rather watch without ad breaks, the standard ad-free tier now costs £13.99 monthly, up 7.7% from £12.99.

And for those on the top-tier premium plan, which lets you stream on more devices and add extra household members, the monthly bill has gone from £18.99 to £20.99, which is a 10.5% jump.

So when do these new prices actually kick in? If you're signing up for a new membership, the higher rates apply right now.

If you're an existing subscriber, Netflix will send you an email giving you a month's heads-up before your bill changes. The exact timeline for when that happens depends on your personal billing cycle, so it's worth keeping an eye on your inbox.

There's another cost creeping up too. Adding an extra member to your account. which is handy if you share with someone outside your household, now costs £5.99 a month instead of £4.99.

Netflix has also reminded subscribers that they can check their payment history within their account to confirm their billing date and current plan. And if you didn't spot the notification email, the company suggests double-checking that the email address linked to your account is still correct.

The US-based streaming service is becoming one of the pricier mainstream streaming options in the UK. Its new £7.99 entry plan is above Disney+ with ads (£5.99) and HBO Max (£4.99), while Prime Video remains £7.99 per month.

If you prefer watching shows and movies ad-free, Netflix starts at £13.99. This is also more expensive when compared to £9.99 for Apple TV+ and £12.99 for Paramount+ Premium.

Netflix told Deadline, the price increases "reflect improvements to our wide range of entertainment and the quality of our service.

"Our approach remains the same: we continue offering a range of prices and plans to meet a variety of needs, and as we deliver more value to our members, we reinvest in quality entertainment and improve their experience by updating our prices.

"We know members have never had more choices in entertainment, and we’re committed to delivering an experience that meets and exceeds their expectations.”

The platform pointed to a packed slate of upcoming content. Titles heading to the service this year include The Gentlemen season 2, Black Doves season 2, and Pride And Prejudice, while freshly commissioned projects feature The Unheard with Kate Winslet and Jonny Boy starring Barry Keoghan.

Despite these increases, Netflix hasn't exactly been short on cash. The company pulled in $45.18 billion (roughly £33.43 billion) in revenue during 2025, which was 17% more than the year prior.
