The Oura Ring 4 and Ring Pro from Ultrahuman has tough new competition.
Dreame, best known for its smart home equipment like robot vacuums, is entering the wearable space with three new devices — Dreame AI Smart Ring, Dreame Glow Ring, and Dreame AI NFC Smart Ring.
This trio of feature-packed jewellery all boast unique elements, including haptic buzzes to flag incoming notifications and gestures to control common smartphone features, and built-in Near Field Communication (NFC) to use your ring as a substitute for your car fob to unlock doors. You'll also find the usual health tracking features, including ECG monitoring, sleep analysis, and step counts, which make these wearables a popular alternative to smartwatches.
Despite the swathe of features, Dreame has worked hard to keep its three new smart rings lightweight, with the Glow Ring emerging as the lightest model in the lineup — 2.5mm thick and weighing as little as 2.6g.
Ahead of the launch of its new devices, GB News spoke to Dreame GTM Manager Feli Hsu, who explained how each ring in the lineup serves a different purpose.
First up, Dreame's Ms Hsu shows off the features of its flagship model, the Dreame AI Smart Ring, which focuses on interaction and subtle notifications: “This one is the haptic product, with the haptic alerts and also the touch bar."
Haptics are powered by a miniature vibration motor, with each buzz designed to communicate something different to the wearer. These gentle nudges to the fingertip can remind you to stay hydrated, move more, or take medication without forcing you to constantly check a screen.
This isn't something you'll find on the biggest rivals, including the Samsung Galaxy Ring, Oura Ring 4, or Ultrahuman Ring Pro. In fact, the only other company that has experimented with haptics to send alerts or prompts to the wearer is the upcoming Ringconn 3. The Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses ship with a wrist-worn band to navigate the operating system, which also uses haptics.
Dreame AI Smart Ring also includes what the Chinese manufacturer is calling a “touch bar,” a slim touch-sensitive strip built into the ring that allows gesture controls for music, photos, and presentations. Each time you interact with the touch controls, the haptic motor inside the ring will kick in to let you know it's working.
“You can use it to control your music, to start and pause it,” Ms Hsu explained while demonstrating through the companion app for the Dreame AI Smart Ring. “And you can take a remote photo to do a selfie. You can even use it to control your PowerPoint presentations."
For Ms Hsu, the presentation control feature stands out most.
“While you are doing your presentation, it’s very hard if you use a remote control. It’s a bit big, but if you change it with your ring, it’s going to be very easy and simple. Just stand there and slide up and down — it’s very easy and smooth.”
The second upcoming smart ring from Dreame is the AI NFC Smart Ring. This pushes the concept even further by turning the ring into a digital key.
The device can store access credentials, passes, key fobs, and other compatible NFC-enabled information on the ring. This means you could leave your wallet, access card, or even your keys at home and use the ring instead to unlock doors, tap into buildings, or store digital credentials directly on your finger.
“The NFC function is used to open the door,” Ms Hsu said. “You can put your door keys and your name cards — all the things. If it supports NFC, you can put it in this ring and just use one device.”
The third device, the Glow Ring, is centred entirely around wellness. It continuously tracks heart rate, blood oxygen, body temperature, respiratory rate, and sleep patterns throughout the day and night. This is closer to what we've seen from the competition, including Oura and Samsung.
According to Ms Hsu, health features — especially ECG tracking — are becoming increasingly important to users.
“I think people care about their heart health,” she said. “For me, I care about my health, so mostly I think ECG is one of the biggest functions that I care about.”
Dreame is also planning future AI-driven wellness features, including SOS alerts that could notify family members or friends if a user’s health data signals a potential issue.
Ms Hsu said, “If your health, your friends, or your family’s health is found to have issues, they will notify you through the app, information, or messages.”
The Dreame Health app lets you see and monitor all your activity.
Unlike Oura and Ultrahuman, which offer a paid subscription to access premium health features, Ms Hsu says its core features will remain free to use. However, the company may eventually introduce low-cost subscription options for more advanced AI reporting and health analysis.
Ms Hsu said, "In the future, some upgrade functions like SOS and deep AI health reports, we may make it for a charge in the future, but only like 2 euros monthly.” This equates to just under £2.
For comparison, Oura's paid tier costs £5.99 per month. Ultrahuman offers optional paid add-ons ranging from £2.90 to £4.90 per month.
When asked which finger is the best to wear your smart ring for the best tracking, Ms Hsu confirmed, “We recommend wearing the middle finger and the ring finger.”
She also recommends wearing the device on the dominant hand for the best experience. In terms of battery life, the rings are said to last up to 5-7 days on a single charge or 150 days with their portable charging case.
Like Oura and Ultrahuman, the rings will be available in Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, and Black Titanium.
Dreame also plans to introduce high-luxury jewellery materials down the line, featuring 18K gold (yellow, white, and rose gold) and Pt950 platinum, paired with natural diamonds and precious gemstones such as sapphires, rubies, and emeralds.
The Dreame smart ring lineup is expected to hit shelves later this summer.
While prices have not yet been finalised, Ms Hsu said the Dreame AI Smart Ring is expected to cost around €380, which is about £330, while the Dreame Glow Ring will likely cost closer to €299, about £258.95. There's no word on how much you'll need to pay for the 18K gold variants of these smart rings.
The Dreame AI NFC Smart Ring will be more affordable than other models in the lineup, GB News was told, but it might not release until later this year.
