Samsung appears to be gearing up to launch its very first clip-on earbuds — the Galaxy Able.
The sharp-eyed team at Sammy Guru spotted code that appeared to reveal the earbuds' new name, along with everything we can expect from their new design.
Unlike many of Samsung's earbuds that are designed with active noise cancellation (ANC), these could feature an open-ear design so you can still hear what's happening around you while enjoying your music or podcasts – ideal for staying aware during your commute or morning jog.
The leak also looks very similar to Shokz's newly released OpenDots 2. Other brands offer similar versions, like the Ultra Open earbuds from Bose or the LinkBuds Clip from Sony.
The leaks suggest the Galaxy Able will use bone conduction technology to deliver sound, which works by sending vibrations through your cheekbones directly to your inner ear.
The trade-off? You won't get ANC, but that's rather the point if you want to hear the world around you. This style is especially handy if you're running a race, where the ANC tech is banned, so that you can hear announcements and the other runners around you.
What makes Samsung's possible move into this category of earbuds particularly significant is the sheer size of its global reach.
The company sells more wireless earbuds worldwide than Sony, and its ecosystem of phones, tablets, and wearables means millions of people could suddenly discover clip-on earbuds exist.
Until now, this style has remained somewhat niche, with most everyday users only familiar with traditional options like Galaxy Buds or Apple's AirPods.
Samsung is expected to announce these new earbuds at its next Galaxy Unpacked event. The tech firm hasn't officially announced when the blockbuster event will take place, but whispers indicate that it could occur on July 22 in London.
At the hotly anticipated event, the firm could reveal the Galaxy Z Fold 8, a successor to its popular foldable smartphone. A series of teaser videos across the firm's social media accounts (@SamsungMobile, @SamsungMobileUSA) show everyday items being snipped into shorter, wider shapes. The posts display chocolate bars with their tops lopped off and puzzles missing their upper rows.
It's all pointing towards a possible boxier look for the mobile. Rather than mimicking its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 7's slim, tall design, the new model could give you a more widescreen experience when opened. This is ideal if you're looking to read a book or watch a show on a tablet-sized screen.
Whispers suggest the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are also on the cards, so July could be a rather exciting month for Samsung fans.
