European holiday destinations where drinks are 70% cheaper than UK – from city breaks to beach escapes

Britons looking to make their holiday budget stretch further can swap expensive city breaks for one of Europe's cheapest destinations for a pint.

New research revealed the European cities where holidaymakers can enjoy the cheapest domestic draft beer, with prices starting from just £2.11.

This is around 70 per cent less than the average £7 pint in London, according to the data from airport transfer experts at hoppa.

The study analysed dozens of European destinations, comparing the average price of a domestic beer alongside hotel costs, public transport, airport transfers and budget-friendly attractions to identify the best-value summer getaways.

Europe's cheapest destinations for a pint

Skopje topped the rankings, with a domestic draught beer costing an average of just £2.11. The North Macedonian capital offers value beyond drinks too, with affordable accommodation, restaurants and low transport. It is a great choice if looking to keep spending to a minimum.

In second place is Seville, which offers pints for an average of £2.16. The Andalusian city is famous for its lively tapas bars, warm evenings and vibrant nightlife, making it popular with groups looking for a city break that doesn't come with a hefty price tag.

Sarajevo completes the top three with average beer prices of £2.22. Often overlooked in favour of Europe's better-known capitals, the city offers visitors the chance to sample affordable locally brewed beers while exploring its mix of Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian architecture.

The study also highlighted a slew of other destinations where Britons can enjoy great value for money.

Prague was named the best overall budget destination for a summer break, as it had both low prices and plenty of things to do.

Meanwhile, Tirana in Albania was found to have the cheapest three-star hotel stays, with rooms starting from an average of £41.72 per night.

For getting around, Belgrade stood out as the only destination in the rankings offering free public transport, while Corfu recorded the cheapest private airport transfers at £7.43, ahead of Antalya (£8.51) and Rhodes (£9.27).

At the opposite end of the scale, Oslo was named Europe's most expensive city for beer. Holidaymakers can expect to pay an average of £9.58 for a domestic pint in the Norwegian capital – more than four times the cost of one in Skopje and significantly above both the European average of £4.05 and London's £7 average.
