British holidaymakers can save money on their next UK beach break

The UK is home to hundreds of beautiful beaches that are particularly stunning during the warm summer months.

For those ready to hit the coast, Uber has rolled out a brand new summer travel scheme that will make it easier for Britons to reach some of the country's most overlooked seaside spots.

The initiative pairs discounted train journeys booked through the Uber app with reduced ride fares for the last stretch to the beach. Holidaymakers can claim this by applying code UberSeaside in the app. This will give discounts on local rides when paired with a train booking.

It comes as research showed domestic holidaymakers are set to spend more than £13billion on coastal trips across Britain this summer. Uber calculated this by multiplying 33,319,016 staycationers by the £519.90 average spend, to result in a total estimated spend of £13.36billion.

While the UK has roughly 1,500 beaches, the typical Briton has only set foot on eight of them in their entire lifetime.

Yet, the appetite for domestic holidays is growing fast. More than a third of people say they are more likely to choose a UK staycation this year compared to last, with convenience playing a big role.

Nearly one in five say they are put off by the possibility of international travel disruptions.

Gen Z is leading the charge here, with younger Britons ditching the party holidays abroad in favour of wholesome, picture-perfect UK getaways. Some 41 per cent of them say they are more likely to book a staycation than they were last year.

Young people visit around four British beaches a year on average, while older generations have 1.5 annual beach trips.

More than a third of Gen Z do not own a car, which makes reaching lesser-known coastal spots a real challenge without some help. Train rides, car hires and taxis also offer more convenience for families and older generations.

General manager at Uber UK, Andrew Brem, said: "We're seeing a real shift in how people want to experience the British summer. More people are choosing to explore the UK, and Uber is making those journeys easier than ever through our growing travel offering, no matter where they're headed.

"From everyday rides and train journeys to trips on two wheels and Uber Boat by Thames Clipper cruises along the Thames, we're helping people discover more of the UK while making every stage of the journey simpler.

"We're building a travel app that supports every stage of the journey, not just the first or last step of your journey."

The scheme runs throughout August. Britons can apply the code UberSeaside for savings on their next coastal adventure.
