A British expat opens up on life abroad after moving to Norway
There are many reasons to move overseas, whether for work or to experience a new pace of life.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, a British expat discussed their experiences.
Robert, 30, moved from central Scotland to Oslo, Norway and detailed how life abroad comes with challenges as well as benefits.
He made the move because of a work opportunity and explained there have been lots of positives about life in the European city.
However, he spoke about what he found most difficult about moving.
"Even though you can get by with English, to properly integrate into society here, you need to speak the Norwegian language."
Robert explained he is taking Norwegian lessons to make integrating easier.
If looking to move, the expat said Britons should be prepared for higher living costs.
Robert continued: "The cost of living is higher but I wouldn't say that was a huge surprise.
Groceries and living expenses are often pricier in Norway than in the UK.
While things might be more expensive, Robert added class and wealth differences are not obvious.
"What is interesting is that Norway doesn't seem to have an upper and lower class system. Everyone is the same," he said.
"You don't see the same number of food banks, for instance, as you would see in England or the UK."
Norway has a homeless rate of 0.62 per 1,000, according to 2020 data from the European Federation of National Organisations Working with the Homeless.
Research from Shelter stated there are around one in 208 people without a home in England.
