Victoria Beckham has inadvertently sparked confusion amongst Spice Girls fans after tagging the wrong Instagram account for Geri Horner while celebrating the 30th anniversary of the band's debut single, Wannabe.

The fashion designer, 52, shared a series of nostalgic photographs on Instagram on Tuesday to mark three decades since the chart-topping hit launched the careers of the world's biggest girl group.

Alongside the throwback images, Ms Beckham reflected on the milestone, writing: "I can't believe it's been 30 years since Wannabe came out! The debut single that forever changed our lives...

"I'll always be grateful to have been a part of that journey. Thank you so much to our fans for all their love and support over all these years and to my @spicegirls sisters, I love you all so much!!!"

Ms Beckham also tagged each of her former bandmates, including Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown and Geri Horner.

However, eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed while the other members had been correctly tagged, Ms Beckham had accidentally linked to what appeared to be a fan account for Ms Horner rather than the singer's official Instagram page.

The account Ms Beckham tagged has around 2,000 followers, while Ms Horner's verified account boasts more than 1.4 million followers.

One fan quickly pointed out the mistake in the comments, writing: "The correct Geri account is @gerihalliwellhorner @victoriabeckham."

Despite the social media blunder, Ms Beckham's post was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from fans celebrating the group's enduring legacy.

Fellow Spice Girl Melanie Brown, better known as Mel B, simply responded with a love heart emoji beneath the post.

Fans also flooded the comments with messages of support and appreciation for the iconic group.

One wrote: "Thank you for giving us the soundtrack of our lives. Spice Girls forever."

Another added: "We still love you. Girl power forever."

A third commented: "THANK YOU @spicegirls FOR CHANGING THE WORLD AND OUR LIVES."

One emotional tribute read: "Happy 30th to Wannabe. I don't think any of you will ever truly know what that song did for people like me. As a young gay kid, it made me feel like it was okay to be myself before I even knew how to put that into words. It gave me confidence, friendships and a lifetime of memories. Thank you for changing my life in ways you'll probably never realise."

Released in July 1996, Wannabe became an instant global phenomenon, reaching number one in more than 30 countries and launching the Spice Girls into worldwide superstardom.

The group, comprising Ms Beckham, Ms Horner, Mel B, Mel C and Emma Bunton, went on to become the best-selling girl group of all time, selling more than 100 million records worldwide and popularising their 'Girl Power' message.

Ms Beckham's anniversary tribute comes after years of speculation surrounding the band's relationships, particularly between herself and Ms Horner.

The pair have previously been the subject of feud rumours following Ms Horner's departure from the group in 1998 and more recent reports of disagreements over anniversary projects.

However, the pair appeared to put any lingering speculation to rest earlier this year when Horner attended a London concert to support Ms Beckham's son, Cruz.

Ms Beckham later shared a photograph of the pair embracing and captioned it: "Love you."
