The changes will be in place for two months

Tesco shoppers will have a bigger window when booking summer grocery deliveries as the retailer overhauls its delivery service.

The supermarket giant is doubling its usual booking horizon, letting customers secure Home Delivery and Click+Collect slots up to eight weeks in advance rather than the standard four.

It is designed to help families get organised during what can be a hectic time of year, whether that is keeping children fed during the school holidays, preparing for barbecues, or stocking up before heading off on a staycation.

The extended booking period will cover the busy August bank holiday period, too.

Those wanting first dibs can grab priority slots from July 14, with general availability opening up a week later on July 21.

This means shoppers can lock in delivery times for parties, group get-togethers, and trips away well ahead of time.

For anyone who needs groceries in a hurry, Tesco is scrapping the extra charge for same-day Home Delivery and Click+Collect at selected stores until September 6.

This gives shoppers a saving of £2 on home deliveries and £1 on Click+Collect orders, as it would normally apply for last-minute bookings.

For those heading on holiday, Tesco has boosted its Click+Collect availability at stores near popular UK destinations, making it easier to grab essentials on the way to your accommodation.

For those who have forgotten something crucial, the retailer's Whoosh rapid delivery service can get items to your door in as little as 20 minutes.

Same-day slots are available subject to availability, with orders needing to be placed by 8.45am for home delivery from 1pm, or by noon for Click+Collect.

Tesco Online director, Rob Graham, said: "Summer can be one of the busiest times of the year, whether you're planning a family trip away, hosting a BBQ, enjoying a day out or simply keeping everyone fed and entertained during the school holidays. We want to make it easier for customers to get organised and plan ahead.

"That's why we're opening up eight weeks of Home Delivery and Click+Collect slots over the summer, giving customers more flexibility to book a time that works best for them to get what they need.

"We're also offering same-day delivery in more stores than last summer and have increased our Click+Collect availability in holiday hotspots to make sure we're there when customers need us."

In more supermarket news, Asda announced it has given its meal deal a World Cup-inspired overhaul - but shoppers must be quick.
