Lloyds Banking Group will close 231 of their bank branches in 2023 and 2024

Lloyds Bank has announced another bank branch will disappear from the High Street, in a blow for customers who prefer in-branch banking.

The bank has this week confirmed a location in West London will close for good early next year.

The 308-312 Chiswick High Road W4 1NS site will shut on February 19, 2024.

Lloyds Bank said the nearest alternative branch will be 1.56 miles away, in Hammersmith on King Street.

It can be reached by public transport, with the bus journey time taking around 20 minutes.

Customers are also directed to The Broadway location in Ealing, which is 2.61 miles away from the Chiswick branch.

The bank said there are regular direct Tube services to Ealing, with a journey time of around 10 minutes.

Lloyds Bank blamed more customers doing their everyday banking online and a fall in the number of branch visits, as well as a nearby branch, for the decision to close the location.

Lloyds Bank said only 163 customers used the branch regularly in the 12 months to July 2023.

They said their research shows 58 per cent of personal customers using the Chiswick branch have also used other Lloyds Bank branches.

It means Lloyds Bank will close 126 bank branches in total in 2023 and 2024.

Lloyds Banking Group, which also owns Bank of Scotland and Halifax, will close at least 231 bank branches.

Bank of Scotland is set to close 28 branches. Halifax is due to close 77 bank branches.

A Lloyds Bank spokesperson said: “As many customers now choose to bank online or through their mobile app, visits to our Chiswick branch have fallen over recent years.

"When the branch closes in February next year, customers can continue to bank with us online, over the phone, in person at the Hammersmith branch, or the Post Office on Heathfield Terrace.”
