GB News average audience now 24 per cent bigger than Sky News, 17 per cent bigger than BBC News Channel

GB News has widened its lead over Sky News and the BBC News Channel, latest BARB audience data for August reveals.

The channel averaged 82.3k viewers last month, up 0.9 per cent on July's 81.6k. In contrast the BBC News Channel fell 4.8 per cent to 70.0k, down from 73.5k, while Sky News dropped 3.9 per cent to 66.2k, down from 68.9k.

It means GB News finished August 24.3 per cent ahead of Sky News, up from an 18.4 per cent lead in July, and 17.7 per cent ahead of the BBC News Channel, up from 11.0 per cent.

The channel's monthly audience share also rose, climbing from 1.43 per cent in July to 1.63 per cent in August, ahead of the BBC News Channel on 1.38 per cent and Sky News on 1.31 per cent.

August marks the 13th consecutive month GB News has finished ahead of both rivals in terms of average views.

Commenting, GB News' Head of Programming Ben Briscoe said: "Thirteen months at the top proves GB News is the undisputed number one news channel in Britain.

"It's a clear signal that viewers trust the People's Channel to tell them what's really happening in this country. While our rivals lose ground, more people are choosing the People's Channel every single month, for bold and fearless journalism."

The ratings win comes just weeks after GB News was named News Programme Of The Year at the National Reality TV Awards, following a ceremony in London at the end of July.

In June, GB News won the TRIC Award for Best News Programme for the fourth consecutive year, beating BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain and ITV Evening News.

In April, the channel was named Start-Up of the Year at the Campaign Media Company of the Year Awards 2026, recognising its rapid growth and impact on the UK media landscape.
