If you're thinking of upgrading to one of Samsung's Galaxy flip phones, time could be limited.

The South Korean tech firm is expected to announce a slew of new foldable devices at Galaxy Unpacked — kicking off at 2:00pm in London, July 22. This includes the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Flip 8.

However, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could be the last clamshell-style foldable from the company.

Well-known tipster Ice Universe wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is likely to be Samsung's last small product."

This type of model is built with a flexible inner screen that folds top-to-bottom. When closed, they are highly compact and pocket-friendly. It's ideal if you want your mobile to easily fit into your pocket or small bag without compromising on a large screen.

However, sales data suggest it's not the most popular foldable for Samsung.

Shortly after the Galaxy Z Fold 7 was announced, pre-orders surpassed the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in South Korea, according to FN News. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 accounted for 60% of early sales.

There are also no confirmed leaks or rumours suggesting that a successor to the Galaxy Z Flip 7FE will be announced. This is Samsung's first entry-level flip smartphone at a more affordable price point of £849, which made its debut last summer.

For comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 launched with a starting cost of £1049.

It was argued that the 7FE's release price was still too high for an entry-level model. Many said it was too similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 but with less RAM and an older battery to keep the cost down.

And Samsung appears to be going in a different direction, per its most recent teasers.

A series of videos across the firm's social media accounts (@SamsungMobile, @SamsungMobileUSA) show everyday items being snipped into shorter, wider shapes. The posts display chocolate bars with their tops lopped off and puzzles missing their upper rows.

It's all pointing towards a possible boxier look for the hotly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 8. Rather than mimicking its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 7's slim, tall design, the new model could give you a more widescreen experience when opened. This is ideal if you're looking to read a book or watch a show on a tablet-sized screen.

The California-based tech firm is rumoured to also be unveiling a similar-sized book-style model as its first foldable model later this year.

However, this doesn't mean that demand for this type of flip has completely dwindled. After all, there's nothing to suggest Samsung wouldn't unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 8 in just a few hours.

Motorola also just launched its successor to the iconic Razr flip phone earlier this spring.
