One person has died and at least five people, including two police officers, were injured in a shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The person dead is believed to be the suspect, according to CBS' Minnesota affiliate WCCO, citing a senior source.
In a statement on social media at 11.10pm the City of Minneapolis said police were at the scene of a shooting in the area of E 15 Grant Street involving "multiple victims".
Most of the large cross-agency police presence is focused around the Loring Towers apartment building in the Loring Park neighbourhood.
Dozens of police officers remained in a large cordon as of 5.45pm local time (11.45pm BST).
Governor Tim Walz said state officials were on the ground to support local police and more information would be available as it becomes available.
"My public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon," he said.
A local resident told a local news station he heard "three shots" of a larger calibre as he recalled the events.

"And after that, the cop car I think he hit him. And after the cop car hit another car."
He then said a SWAT team emerged on the scene, adding that the back of a cop car was "totalled, basically".
Eyewitness video showed dozens of officers rush into the apartment building.
One of the police officers shot was hit in the leg, while the other was shot in the stomach, according to Fox 9.

Both officers are said to be okay, according to a local news reporter citing a "high-ranking" police source.
Law enforcement from multiple agencies, including specialist agencies from the bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) remain on the scene.
FBI Director Kash Patel also confirmed that officers from his agency were responding to the shooting.
The surrounding area also includes the Minneapolis Convention Center, hotels, a hospital and university.

Nearby University of St. Thomas' Minneapolis campus is on lockdown "out of an abundance of caution", a spokesman told US outlet CNN.
The city has urged residents to avoid the area from 12th street to Franklin, Hennepin to 3rd Ave S.
Mayor Jacob Frey has reiterated calls to avoid the scene as several law enforcement partners remain on the scene.
Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota Senator, said she was in contact with the mayor about the "horrific shootings".
"My prayers are with the victims and their loved ones," she added. "Thank you to our courageous law enforcement."
