Earl Charles Spencer's upcoming book on his sister, Princess Diana, is a "symbol of solidarity" with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a royal expert has suggested.
The 62-year-old Earl has penned a revealing memoir centred on his relationship with Diana and the turbulent period that followed her death.
The book, titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, is scheduled for release on September 22 through Penguin Michael Joseph, with the 30th anniversary of the princess's passing approaching next year.
He said the constant flood of interview requests about his sister ultimately persuaded him to commit his recollections to paper.
"This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time," he stated.
With the book due to be released on the 29th anniversary of the late Princess of Wales' tragic death rather than the 30th, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes it shows the "close" relationship between the Spencers and the Sussexes.
"It's a symbol of solidarity with Harry and with the Sussexes," the expert told GB News. "Obviously, because they're close. It's obvious.
"Why didn't we wait for 30 years? 29 years; there's no peg, so to speak. It's clear, they're close."
It is understood that during Harry's recent trip to the UK - in which he was joined by Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet for a day when they met with the King - the Sussexes visited the Althorp Estate, the Spencer family's ancestral home, managed by the Earl.
The Duchess of Sussex shared a photograph on Instagram of Harry, Archie and Lilibet carrying flowers in honour of Diana.
The Northamptonshire estate is home to the late Princess of Wales's final resting place, meaning the Earl permitted the duke to take his children to see his mother's grave for the very first time.
LATEST ROYAL NEWS
Mr Fitzwilliams, speaking to the Daily Mail, previously claimed the Sussexes have "an ally in Britain which they can use as and when they choose to return."
Wednesday saw the bombshell revelation that Harry and Meghan are set to return to the UK "for an extended period of time" - moving into a new, non-royal residence in the UK.
With the late Princess of Wales's younger brother residing at Althorp, and his known close relationship with his nephew, Northamptonshire has emerged as a contender for their new UK property.
Northamptonshire is also just under a two-hour drive from London, making it a contender for the Sussexes' new UK home.
Beyond properties, as for what the future could hold for the Sussexes back in the UK, Mr Fitzwilliams remained undecided.
"Supposedly they'll be non-working royals and have charitable engagements and so on, but the whole situation will be completely unique," he explained.
"The only safe answer is that I don't know - nobody knows exactly."
Earl Spencer's upcoming book, described by Daniel Bunyard as "a book of historic importance", can be pre-ordered on TGJones for £14.
