The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are moving back to Britain, but they will not be living in London

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have confirmed they will be returning to the UK and will live outside London, but have stopped short of confirming the exact location.

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to Britain last month, they spent some time in King Charles's private home in Gloucestershire, and Prince Harry also attended the one-year-to-go countdown events for the Invictus Games in Birmingham.

They also visited Earl Charles Spencer's home at Althorp in Northamptonshire, where the late Princess Diana is buried. Before moving to California, Meghan and Harry lived in Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, where Prince Archie spent the first five months of his life.

The Duchess of Sussex did not travel to London because they did not receive taxpayer-funded police security during their stay.

The location of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's new UK home has been kept private for security reasons. GB News has analysed the four most likely contenders.

Northamptonshire

Prince Harry and Meghan took their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, to visit their late grandmother's grave at the Althorp Estate over the summer holidays.

The Duchess of Sussex, 45, shared a photograph on Instagram of Harry, Archie and Lilibet carrying flowers in honour of Princess Diana.

The late Princess of Wales's younger brother, Earl Spencer, resides at Althorp and is known to have a close relationship with his nephew.

Northamptonshire is just under a two-hour drive from London, making it a contender for the Sussexes' new UK home.

Windsor

Before moving to California in 2020, the Sussexes resided at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

In Spare, Prince Harry's 2023 autobiography, he wrote: “We loved that place. From the first minute. It felt as if we were destined to live there.”

Meghan was also fond of the area, explaining her rationale in her 2022 docuseries with Prince Harry. She said: “We could just go for walks and we could live on the grounds. It was just a time when we could be a family.”

“Windsor is so beautiful... and it was just a place that had so many memories.”

Prince Archie spent the first five months of his life at Frogmore before moving to Montecito, which could influence the family's decision to return to the area they once loved.

LATEST ROYAL DEVELOPMENTS

The Cotswolds

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be planning to move to an idyllic country bolthole in the Cotswolds, not too dissimilar to Princess Anne's Gatcombe Park estate in Minchinhampton.

The Princess Royal's children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, live on the same estate.

As Prince Harry has lived away from the UK for six years, he may want to live near his aunt and two of his cousins.

Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, own a six-bedroom farmhouse valued at £3.5million, also in the Cotswolds.

Birmingham

The Duke of Sussex took part in several events in Birmingham last month, ahead of the 2027 Invictus Games taking place in the same city.

Prince Harry and Meghan may want to set up shop near the location where the couple are expected to make several appearances this time next year.

The couple's popularity appears to be high in Britain, as Prince Harry was met with a rapturous, cheerful welcome.

Locals and organisers praised him as incredibly "down to earth" and relaxed.
