Arthur Fery has drawn direct inspiration from Emma Raducanu's remarkable 2021 breakthrough as he charts his own path towards Grand Slam glory. The 23-year-old wildcard, now through to the Wimbledon semi-finals, vividly recalls watching Raducanu's composure during her stunning run at SW19 five years ago.
"My memory of it was that it was impressive how she didn't let the occasion get to her," Fery reflected. "She would just keep going match after match, playing well, beating top players. That was until the title."
He acknowledged the immense difficulty of performing under such intense scrutiny. "It's very tough to do when you're not used to being on the stage, on such a big stage. She did great when she won the US Open."
Fery has adopted an identical philosophy. "Yeah, I've been trying to do that as well. Just take it match by match, play my game, put what I do best on court."

Fery has etched his name into British tennis history by becoming the first wildcard from these shores to reach the Wimbledon gentlemen's singles semi-finals in the Open Era.
His commanding straight-sets victory over Italy's Flavio Cobolli on Centre Court on Wednesday secured this remarkable milestone.
The Briton carried additional confidence into the encounter, having previously defeated the Italian at the Australian Open earlier this year.
"I felt, as I said on court, not comfortable but a bit more confident in playing someone that I'd played before on a big stage," Fery explained.
He acknowledged the tight nature of the contest despite the scoreline. "Even throughout the match I felt like it was very, very close. At times he was serving really well. But I felt like I had always a little bit, not of leeway, but a little bit of an edge."

The Princess of Wales offered her congratulations to Fery following his historic triumph. She wrote on X: "A memorable day at @Wimbledon. Congratulations to Arthur Fery on becoming the first British wildcard to reach the Gentlemen's Singles semi-finals in the Open Era, a fantastic achievement that has inspired so many. Wishing you the very best for the next round."
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also took to social media to celebrate the achievement. He posted: "What a moment for Arthur Fery. From wild card to Wimbledon semi-finalist, a brilliant performance on the biggest stage. Best of luck in your next match!"
Fery himself could scarcely believe his fortune. "It just seems to get better and better every match, I can't believe it," he said.
The commercial landscape for Fery is poised to transform dramatically following his extraordinary fortnight at SW19.
His ranking is projected to surge 78 places from 114th to 36th in the world, guaranteeing direct entry to all premier ATP Tour events including next month's US Open.

The guaranteed prize money of £900,000 represents merely the beginning of potential earnings.
Sponsorship opportunities reminiscent of those secured by Raducanu after her 2021 US Open triumph may soon materialise, with British players particularly attractive to brands seeking access to domestic audiences.
His agent Nathan Rooney, who previously guided Dan Evans's career, will be instrumental in navigating these commercial waters.
