Shokz has just launched its lightest open-ear earbuds ever — the OpenFit Air 2.

A successor to the OpenFit Air, these are ear-hook style earbuds, meaning they loop over your ear rather than sitting inside the canal. Instead of featuring Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), they're built to let you hear your music while still picking up sounds around you, which is ideal if you're a runner, cyclist, or want to stay aware of your surroundings. They also arrive just a few months after OpenDots 2 and the OpenDots Air.

These new earbuds tip the scales at a mere 7.2 grams per earbud, which is lighter than their predecessor weighing in at 8.7 grams each. To put that in perspective, 7.2 grams roughly equates to the weight of about seven paperclips.

The Shokz OpenFit Air 2 are open-ear earbuds designed for comfortable, all-day listening without blocking out your surroundings. They feature improved bass, up to 36 hours of battery life with the case, and a lightweight 7.2g design.

When it comes to sound, the earbuds pack a patented Bassphere driver — essentially a dual-driver setup that delivers output on par with a 16mm custom speaker — so you're getting decent bass and a wide, immersive soundstage. This is a slight upgrade from the OpenFit Air, as they only feature a single-driver setup.

There's also the OpenBass 2.0 algorithm, which is meant to work behind the scenes to add extra depth and richness to the audio.

Like the OpenFit Air, they also contain DirectPitch Technology, which keeps your music focused towards your ears and reduces how much leaks out to people nearby. For instance, if you're wearing them on the tube, the person sitting next to you may only hear very minimal sound, if any at all.

If you love tweaking your sound, the Shokz App offers four preset EQ modes — Standard, Vocal, Bass and Private — along with two fully customisable options.

The battery life has also undergone an upgrade. Each earbud is designed to manage up to eight hours on a single charge, and the charging case pushes that total to 36 hours. On the other hand, the OpenFit Air is meant to only last six hours on a single charge and up to 28 hours with the case.

And if you're in a rush, you can plug in the OpenFit Air 2 for just 10 minutes, and the company says it will give you three hours of playback — enough for a workout or your commute home.

The earbuds feature a dual microphone setup paired with Artificial Intelligence (AI) noise reduction that filters out background noise, whether you're in a busy coffee shop or battling the wind outdoors.

It's also worth noting that they come with pressure-sensitive controls. They respond to a simple press and are designed to ignore sweat, raindrops, and stray hairs, so you won't get annoying accidental skips. You can also customise button functions through the Shokz App. The OpenFit Air, however, only features standard touch controls.

The earbuds carry an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance, so a sudden downpour shouldn't be a problem. The charging case gets its own IP54 protection too, and it's slimmer and lighter than the previous model, making it easier to slip into your pocket.

They're meant to connect easily with Android, Windows, and iOS devices.
