If you've been counting down until the launch of iOS 27 — the next major revision of the iPhone operating system — you'll be pleased to know this blockbuster software update is now available to download and install in the UK. However, some of the features that you might've seen previewed earlier this summer during Apple's annual developer conference will be missing.
Apple has unbexpectedly culled two features from the initial release, even though both were available during the beta testing period over the summer months. Neither feature has been scrapped, but you'll need to be patient before you can access them.
The missing capabilities are Suggestions in Messages and Automatically Fix Password.
Apple confirmed the decision to ditch both from iOS 27 with quiet updates to its website, noting that both features will arrive in a future software update. The delays also affect iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate, since these are all cross-platform features that work across all Apple devices.
So what exactly are you missing out on? Let's start with Suggestions in Messages, which sounds rather handy.
This feature taps into Apple Intelligence — that means you'll need an iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, or newer — to anticipate your next step and offer a shortcut.
For example, when someone asks you to send them a photo or reminds you to finish a task, iOS 27 recognises this as a request and offers a shortcut to quickly take action. With a single tap, you can add an appointment to your calendar, create a new note, or add a new reminder. Apple Intelligence pulls all of the relevant details from the text message.
It's designed to remove the need to constantly switch back-and-forth between iOS apps. It's a genuine timesaver.
Interestingly, the same context-aware prompts will be available in Mail — the default email app preinstalled on every iPhone and iPad — at launch. Apple is only delaying the functionality in Messages for now.
"Suggestions in Messages conversations coming in a future software update," it confirms in the small print on its website.
The other delayed feature involves your passwords, and this one's particularly frustrating because it handles a tedious task for you. Apple's Passwords app was meant to leverage Apple Intelligence alongside Safari to repair compromised login details automatically, working away in the background without bothering you.
When the feature eventually arrives, you'll receive alerts about passwords that are weak or have been hacked in data breaches. The clever bit is that the app can sort them out on your behalf, saving you the hassle of manually changing each one.
Eagle-eyed users on Reddit noticed this capability had vanished from the final beta for iOS 27 earlier this week.
Apple has now officially confirmed its removal from today's release on the company's website. It states: "Coming in a future software update."
When can we expect these new features? Some believe the next iOS update, most likely iOS 27.1, will arive before October 23, 2026. That's the date when the foldable iPhone Duo launches worldwide, which is expected to arrive with a fresh software update. Provided that both Suggestions in Messages and Automatically Fix Passwords meet Apple's internal quality standards, this could be a good time to roll out both features to iPhone owners worldwide.
Apple hasn't given an exact date for when Suggestions in Messages and automatic password changes will launch, so it's possible it will miss the launch of iOS 27.1.
In the meantime, the iOS 27 release is still packed with plenty of exciting additions. You're getting the brand-new Siri AI assistant with enhanced capabilities across your apps, fresh photo editing tools powered by Apple Intelligence, and expanded options in Image Playground.
There are also automatic tab grouping in Safari, design refinements to the Liquid Glass redesign that launched this time last year, quicker performance for older devices, and a completely overhauled search function in Mail.
